Change
I learned that changing things can expand your thinking. I agree that being in the same environment, or same routine can become comfortable when you can easily get used to it. It would be insane to expect anything different than what you've always received without change. To make my brain more uncomfortable, I can go places I don't normally go, and do things I don't normally do. I often run to nature when I want to get away. I believe being around interesting people is a great thing, because they are, a lot of the time, spontaneous. This breaks cycle, or expected routine of that person, bringing "newness" to the table.

Influence
I would consider myself the sum of tragedy and triumph. I am also a diverse, positive, spiritual person, and I try to surround myself by others like me. I am influenced by many styles and mediums of art as well as music. One thing I plan to do to broaden my influence is travel. I love to travel and I learn a lot from it.

The KEY
I enjoy this image because the message is clear and it uses smaller symbolic images (of keys, and locks) to create a much larger key. I also like the fact that even though at first glance the picture may seem abstract, as you analyze it further, each individual photograph serves a purpose. I think overall it is a really clever and simple piece that is easy to draw inspiration from.

- Write an introductory blog entry introducing yourself. In your blog entry, talk about your creative process, where you get your inspiration, your struggles with creativity and coming up with new ideas.
- Also talk about the value of creative people in our culture, your thoughts about creativity in our profession and other creative people you admire.
- Post an example from your portfolio that you consider "creative."
1. My name is Malik Terry and I am a graphic design student. A couple of my hobbies are making music, and different mediums of fine art. My creative process consists of research of the client, briefs, finding compatible inspirational pieces, sketching, and execution. I struggle with finding compatible inspirational pieces because I often find inspiration in too many things that aren't compatible, which can take away from the original identity of the client. At times I get stuck after finding that my first try was a fail and become overwhelmed. I then remember that this problem can be easily fixed by finding inspiration better inspiration and/or drawing more concept sketches.
2. Creative people in our culture are valued most when they are the first to do something but also valued when they can creatively reproduce, or draw inspiration from the first people to do something. I highly value originality, but have learned over time that everything is inspired by something, its all about the way you see it. Creative people in our profession that I admire are Milton Glaser and Saul bass. Though they are both iconic and considered original, I still see some resemblance in their work. The style and technique they use to transform an inspirational piece to an original piece is what makes them different.
